Health Care Assistant

In this 22-week program, students acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to become front- line care providers capable of working in a variety of community and institutional settings.

Graduates will be qualified to register with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry and to be employed as Home Support Workers or Resident Care Attendants.

The program follows the British Columbia curriculum guidelines and includes these key modules:

  • Health and Healing : Concepts for Practice
  • Health 1 : Interpersonal Communications
  • Health 2 : Lifestyle and Choices
  • Health Care Assistant : Introduction to Practice
  • Healing 1 : Caring for Individuals Experiencing Common Health Challenges
  • Healing 2 : Caring for Individuals Experiencing Cognitive or Mental Challenges
  • Healing 3 : Personal Care and Assistance
  • Practice Education Experience 1 : Multi-level / Complex Care Facility
  • Practice Education Experience 2 : Home Support / Assisted Living

Additional training in FoodSafe, First Aid, WHMIS, and Mental Health First Aid is also included in the program to fully prepare students for their entry into the workplace.
